Palliative care essentials to be shared at free PD evenings
Healthcare professionals with an interest in palliative care can advance their knowledge at New Zealand Tertiary College’s (NZTC) professional development events in March, and are encouraged to bring along a friend to also learn more about the topic.
Following the success of the college’s first health and wellbeing professional development evening last year, NZTC will be hosting events focused on Palliative Care Essentials at its Auckland and Christchurch campuses.
Featuring expert guest speakers, attendees can look forward to learning more about palliative care, practical strategies for managing symptoms, death trajectories, and difficult conversations interwoven with spiritual/cultural considerations.
On Tuesday 6 March (6:00pm – 7:30pm), Helen Butler, Education Team Leader at Mercy Hospice Auckland, will head up proceedings at the NZTC Auckland Campus.
Helen has worked as a registered nurse for over 20 years, specialising in mental health and palliative care.
In Christchurch, Clinical Nurse Educator Raewyn Jenkins of Nurse Maude Hospice Palliative Care Service will share her palliative care expertise on Tuesday 13 March (6:00pm – 7:30pm).
She has over 25 years’ experience as a nurse in specialist palliative care settings in the United Kingdom and New Zealand, including St Christopher’s Hospice in London.
Attendees will have the opportunity to take part in a Q&A session after the guest speaker’s presentation, and will receive relevant supporting resources, a certificate of attendance and a gift bag.
