2018 Christmas Message
2018… Where to start?
Our 36th year has been filled with Vision, Heart, Competence and Spirit as our NZTC Team has supported students around New Zealand and across the globe.
We celebrated more than 800 health and wellbeing and early childhood education graduates in 2018. This number looks to expand alongside the college’s program offerings as we look forward to launching a Level 2 study option next year to further support the healthcare sector in 2019.
Our early childhood sector has been challenged this year with a critical shortage of qualified teachers. We moved beyond just conversations of concern, supporting in practical ways by offering scholarship options to relieve the financial stress of study fees. Our teaching qualification fees are currently less than one quarter of the usual cost for students who apply by 24 February 2019. There is no better time to encourage a colleague or a friend to make their decision to commence study!
The quality of NZTC’s programs was reinforced hugely in 2018 with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) awarding us with our third consecutive Category One status. The External Evaluation Review (EER) acknowledgment of “Highly Confident” in educational performance and “Highly Confident” in the college’s self-assessment endorses our ongoing commitment to striving for outstanding for our students, graduates and the sectors we serve.
NZTC hearts have come together in continued support of Jagriti Foundation initiatives. These life-changing opportunities are empowering women and children to gain an education and move beyond labouring. Children are attending school and women are developing sewing skills to financially support their families. The foundation is currently fundraising through the sale of alphabet cards. These educational cards are available for only $10 a pack and by purchasing them, you will Gift 2 Give. To find out more click HERE.
It has been a momentous year in so many ways. On top of our shared team successes, I celebrated my 20th year at NZTC this year alongside many other colleagues honoured for length of service to NZTC. I still continue to be inspired by our dedicated college staff who live and breathe our mission statement and values every day, and our early childhood and healthcare communities, who work alongside us as we all work together towards increasing our education and care for our vulnerable youngest and oldest citizens.
Friday 21 December will be our NZTC Team’s last day of work for 2018 before we enjoy a Christmas break to relax and recharge for 2019. The college campuses will reopen on 7 January 2019, ready for our 37th year of empowering students to care, educate and serve.
On behalf of the NZTC Team, I wish you all the blessings of Christmas and a holiday season full of memory-making moments with family, friends and loved ones. I encourage you to embrace the opportunity to slow down and share time with loved ones, leaving technology behind to connect in personal ways. My Christmas wish for us all is time to recharge, read a book, turn off the alarm clock, have a latte and then another, jump over some waves, catch a fish and if you are still and quiet enough you may even hear the gentle ‘coo’ call of the kererū…
