HW439: Cultural Space within Healthcare

Our understanding of another’s health status, how healthcare is delivered and how we care is often influenced by our own beliefs around health and illness. An important aspect of this is bound in our personal values and belief systems. In order to understand how to effectively and safely support others in culturally diverse environments, this course explores ways to ensure students’ work is culturally responsive and safe.

Healthcare delivery in New Zealand is focused on the principles of The Treaty of Waitangi / Te Tiriti o Waitangi to ensure the needs of Māori are fully responded to. In this course, students will advance their learning(s) about the Treaty / Te Tiriti and Māori values to ensure that they can be responsive to these requirements.

This course enables students to advance their role as a Healthcare Assistant, to ensure they can work safely within a diverse New Zealand healthcare environment
