EC521 : The Professional Early Childhood Teacher

This course introduces you to the field of early childhood education in New Zealand and explores the key dimensions of a professional early childhood teacher, through providing an insightful look into personal and professional practices that characterise early childhood professionals. Te Whāriki (Ministry of Education, 2017), the national curriculum framework for early childhood education, its overall intent, structure and practices it promotes are introduced, and key documents that guide the early childhood profession in New Zealand are examined. This course particularly emphasises the importance of supporting health and safety of infants, toddlers and young children in early childhood settings.
