NZTC launches new website for ECE e-journal He Kupu


New Zealand Tertiary College’s online journal, He Kupu, has a brand new website.

He Kupu – a free, fully-refereed early childhood education online journal published twice a year by the college – gives ECE students, teacher educators and related professionals the opportunity to share empirical research, literature reviews, critical analyses, colloquia, and reflections upon practice.

Featuring a sleek design, He Kupu’s new website was crafted with simplicity and user-friendliness in mind for its more than 7,000 subscribers, as well as new site users.  

With improved article accessibility, easy-to-navigate layout, and added functions to enhance users’ experience, the new website is designed to work across a range of devices including mobile, tablet and desktop.

“The new website needed to serve and meet the demands of today’s digital society. The new design strips back the complexity of the old and repackages and presents the same information in a clear and concise layout that’s functional across multiple screen sizes,” explained NZTC Graphic Designer Christian Suniula.

He Kupu article submissions can now be conveniently uploaded and submitted online, making the process of submitting research papers and other content more straightforward.

New functionality enables users to effortlessly access abstracts with the click of a button, and a ‘How to cite this article’ section included at the bottom of each article makes referencing easy.

Sharing content of interest via Facebook, LinkedIn, email and Twitter is now easily done thanks to an added sharing capability.

Featured on the new website is the latest issue of He Kupu (Volume 5, Number 2) titled Weaving Biculturalism Into Our Everyday ECE Practices – the first edition to focus on biculturalism and bicultural development.

Articles included in this issue explore bicultural development from a range of perspectives, including tiriti-based early childhood education, bicultural teaching and learning, the development of bicultural resources, and developing bicultural competency.
