Study in New Zealand
New Zealand provides a safe, inclusive, and diverse environment where international students feel welcomed and supported. Working in early childhood centres provides students with relationships with New Zealand’s multicultural children, families and communities.
International students are in an early childhood centre for most of the year in their study programs, providing them with opportunities to gain employment in their centre. While on a student visa, they may work up to 20 hours per week during their studies and full-time (40 hours) during Christmas vacations, allowing students to gain valuable experience while supporting themselves financially.
Beyond academics, New Zealand boasts a stunning lifestyle, blending breathtaking landscapes with vibrant city life.
Early Childhood Education in New Zealand
Early Childhood Education (ECE) teachers are in high demand across New Zealand, offering excellent career opportunities for qualified teachers.
As of 2023, New Zealand had 4,483 licensed early childhood centres, with most employing 80-90% qualified teachers. The remaining 10-20% are unqualified educators with relevant experience in early childhood settings, ensuring a well-balanced workforce that maintains optimal teacher-to-child ratios while supporting both business operations and quality learning experiences for children.
ECE-qualified teachers are now listed under Immigration New Zealand’s Green List (Tier 2), providing a potential pathway to residency for those who meet the required criteria.
