Modes of study

Why study at NZTC?

“Our vision is to empower you with the knowledge, skills, beliefs and attitudes that will allow you to be an effective early childhood educator.”

New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) was founded in 1982. We are one of the oldest professional early childhood teaching providers in New Zealand. Today, we are committed to providing you with high quality early childhood teacher education programs.

Professional recognition

All NZTC programs are approved and accredited by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority, and are on the New Zealand Register of Quality Assured Qualifications. This means that our qualifications are recognised by early childhood education providers in New Zealand.

Teacher registration

Our Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) and Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Early Childhood Education) are recognised by the New Zealand Teachers Council. This means that graduates are eligible to apply for provisional teacher registration in New Zealand.

You can work while studying

Over 90% of our students are employed in the early childhood sector while studying for their NZTC qualification.

In addition, we offer three flexible modes of study, including an online distance learning option, which allows you to work while completing our qualifications.

Early childhood teachers are in demand in New Zealand

There is a current shortage of qualified early childhood teachers in New Zealand – early childhood teachers are even on New Zealand Immigration’s Long Term Skills Shortage List . A qualification in early childhood teaching will increase your chances of finding a job in an early childhood centre in New Zealand.
