Why study at NZTC as an international student?

New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) has specialised in training early childhood teachers since 1982, and all of our programs are approved and accredited by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).

If you’re an international student (i.e. not a New Zealand citizen or New Zealand permanent resident), here are some more excellent reasons to complete your qualification at NZTC:

High demand for early childhood teachers in New Zealand

Our Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Early Childhood Education) satisfy the criteria on New Zealand Immigration’s Long Term Skill Shortage List .

Gaining one of these qualifications will increase your chances of finding a job after graduating, and will receive points towards permanent residency (PR) in New Zealand. This will help you to settle in New Zealand.

You and your spouse can work in New Zealand *

International students enrolled in all of our programs may be eligible for:

• A work permit for 20 hours per week (for the student)

If you are enrolled in our Bachelor or Graduate Diploma you may be eligible for:

• A full-time open work permit (for the duration of the student’s enrolment period) for the student's spouse.

New Zealand teacher registration

Our Bachelor of Teaching and a Graduate Diploma are recognised by the New Zealand Teachers Council ; the teacher licensing body in New Zealand. This means that graduates are eligible to apply for New Zealand teacher registration, which will improve your job prospects and enable you to apply for permanent residency in New Zealand.

New Zealand teacher registration is also recognised by a number of other countries including Australia, UK, USA and Canada.
