EC603 : Mathematics, Science and Technology

This course is designed to build on your previous learning around the principles of Te Whāriki (Ministry of Education, 2017), which guide teaching and learning in early childhood education in New Zealand. You examine how children develop concepts through engaging in learning experiences, and revisit your understanding of learning dispositions and working theories. You acquire content knowledge of mathematics, science and technology, discuss current practices and research, and develop an awareness of The New Zealand Curriculum (Ministry of Education, 2007) learning areas. You explore how knowledge can be applied within the early childhood education environment, including planning and assessment practices, to foster learning that is appropriate for infants, toddlers and young children.
