EC506 : Social Competence in Early Childhood
This course introduces you to the concept of social competence in early childhood and explores the key foundations for social development and learning. It also considers effective teaching strategies that support and promote the emerging social skills and pro-social behaviour in infants, toddlers and young children. The significance of building partnerships with families/whānau/fanau is also discussed. This course also encourages you to acknowledge the uniqueness of each child through exploration of individual needs and to develop an understanding of the support systems available in an early childhood environment to address these needs. An important concept of including all children underpins the content of this course by suggesting teaching practices and approaches that meet the diversity of children’s needs and encourage partnerships with families/whānau through effective communication and a sensitive and respectful approach.
