EC502 : The Whole Child
This course introduces you to key concepts, theories and perspectives on child development. It discusses the child in the prenatal stage and examines holistic development. The developmental domains of cognitive, physical, language, social and emotional development are explored, as well as key influences to development. Children’s learning and development are central to what it means to be an early childhood teacher. Your understanding of child development supports all aspects of your teaching practice, from your interactions with colleagues, to your engagement with children. This course encourages you to reflect on your values, cultural understandings and beliefs about child development. By developing your understanding of child development theories, this course aims to support your practice with children as unique individuals.
