Advice to Contributors


Electronic copies of authors' manuscripts should be sent using Microsoft Word or Rich Text Format to hekupu@nztertiarycollege.ac.nz

Authors are required to provide:

  • biographical outline of their background and research interests, their institution, and their full contact details, not exceeding 200 words
  • an abstract not exceeding 200 words

Content

Submissions should be the author's original research and/or discussion of issues and experiences associated with distance learning and teacher education. He Kupu accepts empirical research, literature reviews, critical analyses, colloquia, case studies and reflections upon practice. Papers should be written in English and between 3000 and 5000 words (for peer reviewed papers) and 1000 to 2000 words (for eTeacher and eLearner reflections, research notes and colloquia).

Style and Referencing

He Kupu accepts electronic manuscripts with 1" margins, Arial 12 pt, double spaced, with numbered pages. Please use limited formatting in order to aid the editorial process.

He Kupu uses the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th Edition) for style and referencing guidelines. Please ensure all references to sources retrieved from the Internet are presented according to document type. Please note that APA guidelines vary for:

  • an Internet version of a existing version in print
  • Internet-only articles from journals, magazines and newsletters
  • organization publications and stand-alone documents
  • institutional reports

Most importantly, an accurate URL address is required - please ensure the address refers to the document source and not to an institution or publication home page.

Additional style guidelines:

  • Put titles in Arial 12 pt bold and subheadings in Arial 12 pt italics
  • Do not indent paragraphs
  • Please avoid using footnotes or endnotes
  • Where tables and figures are required please embed in the file and provide titles along the top of the figure or table with any relevant captions situated beneath, in Arial 8pt. Please do not exceed the 1" margins
  • Please use just one space between sentences
  • Titles of publications and organizations in text should be italicized
  • Italics should be used for emphasis, not quotation marks or capitals
  • When using numbers, spell one through nine, including two-year-old, however for Floor 8 or Level 1 use numerals. Write 10 and above in numerals, spell numbers including one hundred, or one thousand, however not for 1,200 or 101
  • Avoid capitalization unless referring to a specific person or organization however capitalize the World Wide Web, or the Web, and the Internet

The Review Process

Papers submitted for peer review will be blind reviewed by two members of the peer review board. Once reviewed the author or principal author will be advised of necessary amendments to the submission as required by the editorial board. Colloquia, and research and practice notes will be reviewed and edited by the editorial board.
