Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) Upgrade
A New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA)-approved program
If you already hold a Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) or equivalent, we can help you upgrade to the New Zealand Tertiary College Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education). Graduates of this program are not eligible to apply for teacher registration.
Note: This program is not available to international students.
Degree upgrade options
There are two programs:
NZTC Upgrade:
For students who have completed their Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) at New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC). The NZTC Upgrade is an 18 week full-time program.

Upgrade:

Mode of study – NZTC Online
The Bachelor Upgrade is studied via NZTC Online - our unique online learning environment - and can be started at any time.
Assessments
All courses within the program are internally assessed and include theory-based assessments and practical components. There are no exams.
Entry criteria
The below entry criteria apply for students who are New Zealand citizens or permanent residents only.
Before being accepted into the program, candidates must:
- Hold a Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) or equivalent
- Already have teacher registration, or be able to meet the New Zealand Teachers Council criteria
for registration as a teacher
- Provide one written referee report
- Meet the staff health requirements for early childhood centres as outlined in the New Zealand Education (Early Childhood Centres) Regulations 1998

- Declare any physical or learning disability that may impair your performance as a student
- Succeed in a personal interview (if required by NZTC)
